Wongwiang (Thailand - Fair Trade)

Wongwiang Handicraft - founded in 1987 by recovered leprosy patients.

The products we source from Wongwiang are beatifully handcarved wooden items - although they also make many other products.

Incredibly, the organisation first came about in 1987 when Mr Oun Wongwiang and some of his friends, recovering from leprosy, took it upon themselves to try and ease the hardship and poorness of other former leprosy patients by using their ideas to generate income from a wooden handicrafts business.

They learnt their craft while at McKane Rehabilitation Centre and felt the need to give back, once they realised their business model was sustainable.
