Rani - November 2016

Dear Friend,

Thank you for your continuous support! With your help, children in SOS Children's Village Kolkata now have a loving home and a caring environment. For all these children, home is not just a secure place; it is a new life - a life with love, affection, safety and security.

Let me first update you about you sponsored child, Rani.

I would like to express our gratitude for enabling Rani to dream. Thanks to your support, she has an enjoyable childhood and is now looking forward to a secure and stable future. Although average in studies, she is regular to school and is in Grade 6. She is working hard to get good marks this year. She recalls, "I like the durga Pooja festival, which is celebrated for Goddess Durga. This year also, I performed a solo dance and after the show was over, audience clapped for very long time!" She loves to play badminton and do Yoga.

I am so glad to share with you these stories of hope. Through my letter, I will try to tell you how your generous contributions have changed someone's life in a big wy. I hope you will enjoy reading about them as much as I am in writing to you. I have changed their names so as to safeguard their privacy.

The apple of her mother's eyes

Imagine a four-day-old baby alone in this world? A scary thought, isn't it? Life was unfair to Minal right from the very beginning. This little baby was deprived of even basic necesities like food and security.

Thanks to the kindness of people like you, we are able to save lives of many children like Minal.

Little Minal was placed into her SOS mother's lap when she was not even a week old. Her SOS mother Rupali remembers that day. "I had tears in my eyes just looking at her. She had such innocent eyes and looked at me, as if asking for something. I tried to keep her warm, feed her well and ensured her weight increased rapidly."

Time does indeed fly! Her mother continues, "I cannot believe it that my little princess has grown up now. She is pursuing her Bachelor's in Hospitality Management and is already gone. She now lives in the college hostel; but I am very happy for her."

And this is what Minal has to say, "I just cannot wait to be home during holidays. When I am home, I love to cook for everyone. We also have family outings to the trade fair, the zoo etc.. I mis home, especially mom. She is truly an angel. I am thankful to her for giving me so much love. I thank my stars, that I was brought to my SOS village and my life changed."

Karate Competition

This year has been quite eventful. 1 children from SOS Children's Village, Kolkata got a chance to participate in the Kolkata Karate tournament. Children were training hard and practising their martial art skills in the village before this competition. They did rigorous training under the supervision of an experienced Karate coach. They were trained in different forms of fighting. It was also made sure they were given enough protein and calcium so that their bodies could cope up.

Children participating in the karate tournament

On the day of the tournament, there was so much excitement in the air. There were SOS mothers and other children cheering for them in the stadium. In every round, there ws a loud cheer and applause. I am happy to tell you that all the children displayed power and zeal while taking on their respective opponents. Most of our children reached the finals.

The cherry on top of the cake was when five of our children finally won the first prize in their own categories. Rahul remembered that day excitedly, "I was on the seventh heaven when I heard my name, to receive my trophy." When Rahul was asked to say something, he said, "There are many people to thank. But I would like to say something to my sponsor. Thank you! Thank you very much for your help!"

You are the reason for their smiles!

You are the one who puts smiles on the faces of these children. Thank you so much and I hope that you continue to support these children through your kind contributions. I wish you and your family lots of success in your work and prosperity. Please also accept our good wishes for a Merry Christmas and a spendid New Year!

Warm regards,
National Sponsorship Co-ordinator
