Description
Israel is one of the most diverse places on the planet, with more than a hundred different nationalities living within its borders. Entirely unique and forged in conflict, Israeli music reflects the diversity of its people and combines European influences, including Sephardic, Russian and Yiddish folk songs, with Arabic and Palestinian folk music and the energetic rhythms of Yemen and North Africa.
Enhanced Added Value: This album contains a data track that includes an interview with the compiler Dan Rosenberg, information about the history and development of Israeli music from The Rough Guide To World Music book and a competition. Dan Rosenberg is a journalist specialising in regional folk music traditions and has worked for fRoots, the Rough Guides, Outpost and Afropop Worldwide Radio.
